First... I've never heard of a sports car requiring a specific size engine... Ferrari, Aston Martin, etc.
Also a sports car is not a "price range"... a Mazda Miata is considered a sports car and is well under a Corvette, or any of the above.
I am sure we can agree to disagree, but...
IMO... I would say a sports car is mostly quantified by its seating capacity and its aero dynamics
(built for track requirements). Most are 2 seaters and very aero-dynamic, and if they do have a back seat it fits no human properly. Muscle Cars/Pony Cars always have a back seat, and aero-dynamics are much less important than the overall style of the car.
