If you think you have a problem, take it in to a dealership. Tell them and show them what you just asked the forum. I don't have an SS, but I've been on the forum long enough to know that it can break the tires loose in a manual quite easily. Maybe you're just punching it too hard?? Either way, take it into a dealership and get it checked out. You're still under the 36 thousand miles/ 36 month warranty bumper-to-bumper warranty.
Also, I would avoid going 17 mph and then putting in first. As far as I know, unless you rev match perfectly that can be quite bad for the transmission and engine. Try 2nd or even 3rd.
