Burning smell on 5k rpms
I bought my camaro a couple months ago, used. It was driven from NJ to CA without a single problem. I didn't do anything special in that long drive, nor before it.
But now I started using more of it's power, and I noticed that if I'm in 1st or 2nd gear(only that I can go that high without getting in problems) and I get to around 5k rpms I can smell the strongest smell of burning rubber. It's a really strong smell. I'm a new driver, it's my first car, I only drove manual in basic cars in brazil(long time ago, when I was too young, 5 years ago) and in NJ I drove a auto for almost one year. But I never noticed that when I'm in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear, and I'm just deaccelerating, the car kind of jerks, so I have to put it in neutral or step in the clutch and break. I was reading already about the skip shift but I have a question still, is there a problem on doing skip shift when it doesn't say to do it? As sometimes when I drive I just start accelerating and just let it roll downhill and it doesn't give the message but it gets around 17mph and I just let it roll in 1st gear. It's a 2010 2SS Camaro, it had 22k miles when I got it and now it has 25k(just because of the cross country). And if there is anything that is indicated for me to read, as I said before, I'm a begginer. I just got this car because I got a secure job(military), as I'm not rich, I wouldn't be able to buy it. And I don't have too much money to be doing customs and tunes, nor for big repairs. |

If you think you have a problem, take it in to a dealership. Tell them and show them what you just asked the forum. I don't have an SS, but I've been on the forum long enough to know that it can break the tires loose in a manual quite easily. Maybe you're just punching it too hard?? Either way, take it into a dealership and get it checked out. You're still under the 36 thousand miles/ 36 month warranty bumper-to-bumper warranty.
Also, I would avoid going 17 mph and then putting in first. As far as I know, unless you rev match perfectly that can be quite bad for the transmission and engine. Try 2nd or even 3rd. |
