Ford won't be expecting it because its not possible. Well, I shouldn't say not possible ... just about anything is possible when you throw enough money at it. But to do it without gutting the car would mean replacing all the steel with carbon fibre or aluminum, and all the plastic with carbon fibre. After that, you'd probably have to try and get a hold of some light weight electronics and interior pieces.
Now, the question becomes ... how much are you willing to pay for such a car? Toyota more or less tried the above formula with their Lexus LFA and it still comes in at nearly 3600 lbs. Keep in mind, thats a $370,000 2 seater that produces far less torque. And you say GM should be offering a 4 seat torque monster that weighs some 50 lbs less? Their engineers could do it, they're smart cookies over there. They just can't do it for $54,000 though. Maybe for $540,000, but at that price nobody would buy the thing except for a few collectors with money to burn.
But more importantly (in reference to the overall question of improving the ZL1 for 2013), it remains to be seen which car is faster & better handling: 2012 ZL1 or the 2013 GT500. And whichever one is quicker, I'm positive that the ZL1 will be the better car.
