Think of poker. It's a favorite metaphor when describing the situation. And you sorta illustrated it above with the Ford comment. Nobody really does know for sure what Ford is gonna use. So...GM can't exactly go by that, can they? Leaves them guessing. Leaves the possibility of GM underestimating what Ford might do...which allows the F-bomb to turn around and offer a
better engine (poetic license..I know it's impossible

There's no reason for GM to show their hand, or even narrow it down for their competitors. *not* a smart thing to do.
