1. Scott has said multiple times that the camaro will sell at the mustangs price point. I give about a 10% margin of error for this, also including that the mustang will probably jump in price by about 1g for the 30-50ish HP boost its gonna get in the 2009 model year.
2. I would like to see the dyno of your transam that had 450hp from the factory... oh thats right ITS MODDED. I don't give a crap about mods. If your just after HP at the wheels per $.
GO BUY A USED 2005 Mustang and drop a 3.4L custom whipple on it and be at around 30k for well over 600rwhp.
3. If your dissappointed with a vette.. serious dude. Your not going to get better than that for HP/$ from a MFG. Live with it, this car is to be sold to the masses, and the masses dont want HUGE HP at the wheels, only enthusiasts do.
4. Please show me another manufacture that gets more HP/Liter than GM in a consumer sports car and where in the power band it makes that....
In the end your asking for a race car from the factory, and for that your going to have to pay big bucks, why don't you go look into a saleen s7 or a koenigsegg. Your not going to find something like that for consumer car prices.
Edit - Who said it wasnt the LS3? Even scott said that the management sometimes gets the displacements mixed up becuase they usualy use cid instead of liters as a reference... GoGoGo the panic sky is falling syndrome.
