Yes and no, really

'69 COPOs were all supposedly intended for drag-racing. ZL-1s were COPOs

Nothing really all that magical about the '69 COPOs; it was just to get around the corporate engine ban

There really were two COPOs in '69, the L72 and the ZL-1 but you are correct, both were street cars

But by offering a ZL-1 and a COPO Camaro now, Chevy is sort of saying: which part of the COPO legacy do you want? We can do either: street car that's good on the track, or a track-only car

But I think we find it easy to forget: ZL-1s were COPOs
