"Only" is just a consequence of not buying and having to live with something we don't care for, something we learned that a long time ago.
We drove and I owned three AT cars before that, we've rented a few cars from time to time (most, but not all with AT), and I drove a shuttle service/parts chasing minivan for one of the local Chevy dealers for about a year between engineering positions. So let's just say I'm a bit more familiar with AT behavior and "feel" than our car ownership history suggests. I've always noticed at least a little lag, even when the system pressures were higher than necessary for "normal driving".

I'm glad your loving your manuals and I too love them as well. I am in no way a hater of standard, I am simply saying AUTO rocks in it's own ways as well..
I will admit that shifting is more exciting in the actual overall drive experience but right now the auto is working for me and the paddles are adequate.
