If a station sells anything above 91 octane like 93 then they mix 87 or 89 with the 93 to get 91. So it's possible he got 87 or 89 in full without the other mix octane. Most stations only have the lowest and highest in their tanks and mix to get the others.
To the OP. Valero is a watered down gas anyway. I wouldn't go anywhere but Sunoco for fuel. In my area I have found its the only 93 that my supra won't knock on under high boost. It's the fuel I tell everyone to run. It's proven to be the best in my area. Possibly different in your area. Valero fuel is just as horrible as delta sonic gas. It's so watered down your mileage drops 3-4 mpg over the course of a tank with delta sonic fuel.
