Bet I've been driving longer than 'dig' has been part of popular slang. I do remember when 'digger' was more or less a synonym for 'dragster' or possibly the competition coupes, but if you had no connection to drag racing at all you wouldn't make that association either.

No, it's not hard to figure out. But the meaning of "in-crowd" slang is not always obvious. Probably by direct intention (if you don't understand, you're not "with it" and not part of "those in the know").



I thought when you did any digging, you made the hole deeper and harder to get out of.

Sorry, couldn't let a set-up like that get away .
