What he means is that a 1 inch x 1 inch square of dynamat will deaden a 2 inch by 2 inch square of metal. In other words, you are only required to cover 25% of the exposed area.

To save weight, use dynamat extreme.

Removing the 6x9's is up to you. If you don't care about rear fill or don't have a wife that thinks the kids need it, then I would say remove them (to save weight and improve front imaging).
