It's the nature of the beast. increasing intake size/volume without increasing cylinder volume(displacement) kills intake velocity, which is part of where the torque comes from.
A ported intake with only a slightly over-bore TB might be a better way to go.
The guy in the thread linked I think used a FAST intake and 102mm TB, which might be a little overkill for the stock displacement, at least if torque loss is a concern.
