Yes, and no. It shares some components with the G8, but they did revise the Zeta platform from the ground up for the Camaro. That's why it's internally referred to as "Zeta II". Most of the reason for the car's weight is in the robustness of the design, and the outstanding structural rigidity. It's one of the strongest-bodied cars GM's ever produced.
