I don't think it would have happened that way even if it was clear skys for the past few years. Generally, low-volume, "special" models like this get released a year or two after the base. Like the Corvette was released in '05, and the Z06 in '06, etc. Plus, if you want to look at it positively...this model will benefit from lessons learned from mistakes made on the first-year car, cables touching, etc.

Very few other models have brand-specific designations like "Z28" or "Z06"...and I don't think they ever said SS was going to be the top model.
