Old Guy needs help...an easy one for you experts!

Guys,

Long and short....

I'm a married, two daughter, midlife crisis-ing 40 something who treated himself to a low mileage, used 2011 SS Automatic/Convertible last summer. Drove the car all last summer and loved it, but am ready to do some minor bolt on stuff, starting with the exhaust, with a CAI soon after.

I know this is going to open a Pandora's Box, but can anyone recommend the best "bang for the buck" cat-back system I can put on this car? I want performance gains (not expecting miracles) and want something rumbly/throaty (but no so obscene as to drown out my wife and kids on Sunday rides).

Can anyone help?

Thanks, and Happy New Year to all of you!
Bucky

Hands down the Stainless Works Retro Chambered Catback! Sounds amazing. You won't really get much from any catback as far as gains

Bang for buck exhaust? To save money, u can go with an axle-back rather than catback. Unless u do headers or somethig to the cats, not going to get a whole lot of performance gains. Issue with your automatic is that any exhaust will amplify the afm mode changes. I have a Pype Bomb axleback that i got used.... not too loud. Buy used on here or off local craigs... just keep an eye out for deals

To be honest. For the most bang for the buck consider keeping the stock cat back and just getting a good set of Long Tube headers and high flow cats. You'll need to tune the engine along with that but you'll have a HUGE difference in power and sound.

I say Corsa. Keep in mind AFM will be highly enhanced with any aftermarket exhaust.

I cannot specifically help with the issue, but this sounds like a good idea. It's what I did on my ZL1 and I'm quite pleased. Oh, but if you do that, I'd say go ahead and get the CAI all at the same time so that if you tune that is on there already, just a thought.

But what I wanted to say is you said nothing obscene, well, it's a Camaro. It's quite alright to be a little obscene with it. Hence I sport the fuzzy dice.

Will that not blow the packing out of the mufflers?

theres no packing in the mufflers Whats your budget? get headers and a tune. cat back will provide nothing but sound as far as seat of the pants power. Headers will make it louder and deeper and 30hp. The tune will make a big difference also in a auto. have AFM turned off. its nothing but crap. You will most likely gain a mile or 2. If anything get a range http://www.rangetechnology.com/pages/v8

I personally had long tube headers and stock mufflers for a short time and found that there was this rediculous drone/rattle at about 1200-1400 Rpms. Needless to say I changed those mufflers quick. So if that is the route you so choose be forewarned it may happen, especially with your afm. I have the 6 speed so no afm to contribute to it. If you want loud and rediculous, I can certainly help with suggestions for that...

I'm an old guy too but have a 2010 A6...messed my back/leg up in Gulfwar '91 or I 'd have a M6. But I put the Solo catback system which was engineered to minimize the AFM/drone and it really sounds tough without that raspy sound. Also running Solo Hi flow cats w/JBA shorty headers, makes it sound deeper.....This was the easiest and tightest fit exhaust I've put on any car so that is a factor also.
Good Luck w/ yours!
