installed my flowmasters myself... could have been a mistake

finally got my flowmaster exhaust in the mail today. and i waisted no time. took them straight to my dads garage and installed them myself. sounded good when it was idling but when i drove around the block it was making a horrible creaking noise especially when i went over bumps. this doesnt make sense cuz i torqued the hell out of all the bolts. its also producing an aweful smell. anybody no a quick fix?

Well I'm not an exhaust expert by any stretch of the imagination but here's a possible guess. Maybe the exhaust or tips is rubbing against the fascia causing the creaking noise as well as the burning smell? Did you check to make sure that nothing was touching after it was off the lift and on the ground?

Double check your clearances and make sure the exhaust isn't rubbing.

My cat-back occasionally would bounce against the crossmember (being reinstalled in the attached pic, courtesy of: http://www.gmhightechperformance.com/camaro/tech/1009gmhtp_2010_chevrolet_camaro_catalytic_converte rs_headers_intake/photo_19.html):

We just used stainless steel washers to space it out a bit (the kit in this pic came with spacers).

Just another thing that could be causing the sound (or likely will in the future after driving it a bit).

The awful smell should be the oil burning off from the new exhaust, or if the mufflers are painted the paint will also smell. It's completely normal.

My tip was touching the fascia and caused a horrible vibration in the car at idle and really bad drone in the car. Bent the pipe for clearance and all is better now!

BTW...Skip the clamps and get that thing welded. Should only run you arund $60-$100.

depending on what style clamp is being used, but

clamps > welds

and i would double check your clearances... you are probably rubbing somewhere
