I understand your concern, but your car shouldn't be at the dealer for 3 days. Take your car to the dealer and ask to take the service manager or technician for a quick ride. Let them hear the problem and have them say, "Yep, I hear that". Be clear on what roads it is noticeable.

Then ask how long. If it's 3 days, I think ( and someone correct me ) you should be given a loaner car.

Regardless, unless it's something you can get to easily, you risk a lot of work on your own to get under the IP.

And believe me, I've fixed a lot of little squeaks on my own over the years to avoid the hassle. So I apologize that you have to go suffer this, but in this case the dealer might be the easiest way to get this fixed.

All that being said, can you duplicate the noise by lightly rapping or pounding (sounds too hard when you say pounding) on the top of the IP? If so, can you look up under the dash while someone repeats the rapping and locate what is loose? If so can you isoloate the component, wire or bracket with tape or foam?

That's the best I can offer. The easiest is that the dealer has had this before and knows exactly what might be loose.

Also look under the hood for anything on the dash panel that might be loose. Noises, knocks and rattles can telegraph and sound like they are under the IP, but are really in the front of the dash panel.

Valve stems in the glove compartment? That's what caused mine... I had different stems; the ones in the glove compartment were the originals... rattling. LOL
