New Recall? Am I being stalled?

Im getting very impatient with my dealer. Hes been very helpful through the ordering process until now. The car was supposed to be here before Christmas and was a no show, the car has been on 4800 status for over WEEK and still no show and he seems like he is unsure at all when it is to arrive. Now he tells me there is some kind of recall and they will have to do work on it before I can even pick it up.

He cut me a good deal on the car I ordered, but at this point with over a week home wasted and only 2 left before I leave again I want my damn car. Im getting very tempted to ride up to the dealership over 4 hours away and just grab a 2SS he has on the lot, its $5K more than I had planned paying, but at this rate I just want my car and be able to enjoy it before I go back out on the road again for 2 months. Im sort of tied to the dealer since I already gave him $500 down payment to secure my order, and I know hell give me atleast MSRP price if I get one off the lot.

What do you guys think? Am I getting jerked around? Anyone heard of any recall? He said he couldnt specify what it was for as their service guys where just finding out.

edit: the vehicle i ordered is a 1SS A6

I have a feeling youre getting jerked around. Id take a trip in there and let the guy know you found one elsewhere. Let him know its a little bit more expensive but youd rather have the car. If he wants you to wait, let him make you an offer on how much your business is worth to him. it cant hurt, worst case scenario you get your deposit back and go buy a car somewhere else. Good luck

I'd wait until like 01/02/11, if still nothing then make your move. Holidays delay everything and the so called "recall" might only be a minor defect on your car.

Did you order an auto SS? There was a "service update" (not an actual recall) just announced for a limited number (426) involved vehicles. GM request that dealers replace the torque converter bolts on only those 426 vehicles. Yours may be one of those involved. It should not delay your delivery by much.

since your car is IN TRANSIT......its VERY possible that it have become SNOW BOUND somewhere.....considering the weather as of late between Canada and your location.....Since you ORDERED a car....you wanted it built a certain way, to suite YOUR NEEDS.....is it a PIA not getting it now...DAMN STRAIGHT SKIPPY.....but in the long run.....you will be happier with the car YOU wanted....not something off his lot. Just be patient....I know its hard....been there done that......but it will pay off in the end.

I would bet its snow thats stalling you car. It happened to my car last Feb. It was "IN TRANSIT" for the longest time because of heavy snow in the north east.

Oshawa plant had to reduce production because of very bad weather some few weeks ago. Look up for a thread on this site.

That 4800 is probably 4B00, which means it's bayed awaiting transport of some kind. Like others have said, that's almost certain to be because of heavy snow. Don't stress!

your shouldn't be paying MSRP for any car. You should be able to get a camaro for near invoice now that the "NEW" factor has worn off. I paid 36.5k out the door for my 2010 Camaro 2SS with stripes, sun roof, polished rims. That was without haggling too much. The dealer is making alot of money off you at MSRP. They are making money on the financing/hold backs/sale incentives..etc.

I'd def. buy what you want and not just go spend and extra 5k to get it now. If the dealer is dicking around with you go to a new dealer and get your down payment back..

Agreed... you should be getting $1000 or more off MSRP on any Camaro at this point

I am getting $1K off MSRP with this dealer, which is why I was hesitant to go elsewhere. I had to travel 4 hours away from Savannah to find a dealer that would even discuss MSRP in the first place, I got the impression around here that unless your pulling that gauranteed military paycheck (which I dont) they didnt even want to talk to you, much less make a deal!

On a side note, Ive noticed the Chevy Dealership in my hometown recently went under and is going through a name-change. Last time I checked there just over a month ago, they wanted stupid prices. Other dealerships were no better.

Exhibit A - 1SS/RS w/ GFX 4000mi Used

The new ones were $40K or more
As for it the code being 4B00, no, its 4800 (Rail Ramp Unload) which is supposed to mean its there locally, just not at the dealer right? I had to ask, because I wasnt sure what "Rail Unload" meant in the first place. Gah, I just want this over with! I feel like its an eternity

As for the snow, I know thats a valid reason but if its truly been in town since the 21st and I am in Georgia, I should have it by now right? I just felt like maybe something is wrong and the dealership is trying to stall me. But thanks for the heads up on the torque converter, since its legitimate Im good to wait a bit I suppose.

when I ordered mine.....once it got to the rail yard.....it took a week before it was unloaded, and another 2 day to get it transported 100 miles....and there were no weather issues either.
