Buttons!

Hey all-

So in my quest to modify my camaro as I see fit, I decided I'm going to install electric exhaust cut outs. Looking at some of the kits, the install looks fairly simple and straight forward. That's the easy part...

Most come with push button or toggle switches, and I've got a friend who purchased one for his Audi that operates off of a key fob (no idea the brand).

I got to thinking... I've got two of the three "garage door/accessory" buttons not used... That looks like it'd be a good place for a cutout button or if you don't mind the reach, a line lock.

There that's it. That's my idea. haha. What I need help with is figuring out how feasible it would be to install the cut outs, have some sort of a remote sensor/switch and utilize the preexisting buttons in my car. At this point, I absolutely refuse on drilling holes into my car if it can be avoided, so I may have to zip tie a regular on/off switch under the dash somewhere... but right now I'm thinking about ravaging part of a garage door opener to make this work.

So all you electrical geniuses, please help a fellow enthusiast out!

Thanks!

I like this idea. However, unless the switches that come with the cutouts are able to receive RF signals, you're not going to have much luck doing this. The cutouts I've seen have wired switches. Now, with that being said, it would take some work but, you could change how the garage door switch works. A switch is a switch, you can rewire it to do whatever you want. Keep in mind that you'd be changing how the factory homelink works though. I don't have the homelink and I'm thinking about either putting a switch where the homelink should be, for the cutouts, or getting the dial they have available and mounting it there. I've been kicking the idea around for that. I was also thinking about mounting it where people are putting their dash plaques.

I don't know how well this plan will work, anything is potentially do-able. I can only speak for Noweeds. Noweeds includes a 3 LED button panel which mounts to the base of the seat itself. Most people that I show it to, can never find the buttons, so its pretty discrete But I have no problem finding it. These buttons are wired into the main module, you could technically tap into the wires and add a wireless interface like what is offered for the fog lights on this forum and then program the homelink to recognize the wireless interface. That would be a bit of un-necessary work though in my opinion. QTP cutouts offer a bigger module, Im not familiar on their wiring harness though. Personally i'd save the homelinks for cool stuff.

Check out the remote switch and box from the forum member FIELDGOAL

He sells a relay to operate the DRL's. It should work for the cutouts too. And you can program it to your homelink in the car like a garage door opener.

We installed these cutouts on a Z06, and I found a remote control, polarity reversing relay that works perfectly. It came with two remotes, but we have not tried to see if you can program the remote buttons to replace the remotes that came with it. I ordered the remote control relay from Logisys.

Changed my mind; Car is loud enough with CAM job, and the $1k on cutouts plus labour can go towards some more HP mods like an SC.
But, would be interesting to see how this turned out for the OP for sure.

I really enjoy the idea of stealth functions.

I think I will try to use the homelink buttons with the device linked below in order to control my cutouts. I don't know that homelink can learn the signals from this remote, but the remote's frequency IS within the homelink frequency range.

I do have one of these remote units, but it is mounted in my house to control actuators that lift a mirror to expose a tv hidden in the wall. I don't know if the range on the homelink buttons is great enough, but I'll try to program my homelink with this remote this weekend....

Spent my money on other things for the time being, sorry to leave everyone hangning.

I have it wired to the center console, and I removed the 12v cigarette lighter plug out of the console, and installed a carbon fiber plate and a momentary on-off-on switch. Pull up to open the exhaust, push down to close.

I still have plans to hook it up to the homelink, just too many irons in the fire at the moment
