Clearing out beehive in cats?

I have 1 7/8 kooks headers and hi flow cats.

Would clearing out the beehive inside the cats be beneficial? I have no emission standards here and the bolt on was put together by a shop, so I didn't have a chance to tell them offroad (yeah shoot me :( ).

Anyway, will I have better air flow clearing out these hi flow cats? I don-t really want to buy anything new, but when I was installing cam I took the cat off and thought maybe if I clear out the hive the air flow may be better?

May be wrong but I think you might loose some back pressure reducing torque

High Flow cats should work well enough to not reduce your power by any noticeable amount. But the SMELL will be horrible more than likely if you dont have the cats (or remove the interior parts of them)

Many tuners and installers have tested and found the high flow cats don't reduce power over off road pipes. I would keep them as they are just for the reduction in smell, as mentioned above.

It would seem that taking out any restriction in the exhaust would yield more HP but Jannetty did a header test and showed no difference between HFC's and off road pipes. Personally, i'd keep them since you already have them. If you want to take them out, i'd suggest you sell the cats to someone on here and buy the offroad pipes. You'd make a little money on the exchange.

You would be wrong.

Please do a search on here and/or google. Back pressure being beneficial is a myth. The reason why old carb'd vehicles lost HP/Tq when they reduced the backpressure was because carbs don't have the ablilty to make changes to the AFR when things change. Reducing backpressure increased the amount of air going into the engine which made the car run LEAN. This is the reason why it lost power. If you took the same carb'd car, made the same exhaust changes, then TUNED the carb for the change, you'd make HP and Tq. PCM cars do have the ability to adjust fuel to maintain the proper AFR so small to moderate changes in airflow can easily be adjusted for and power is increased. The reason why this always comes up is because the old timers still believe this.
