GM Really Droping The Ball on Advertisement

why are there tons of videos and so much better, more attractive multimedia presentations of the new mustang than the camaro...?

for example:

they are both 2010 so GM cant use that excuse...like they do for the challenger...

GM has had 3 years to figure this car out...and ford has now put out two versions of their retro muscle by the time GM gets out ONE!!! WHY SO SLOW AND LATE!!! im partial to the camaro and GM....ive always loved F-bodies and i am a huge camaro fan. but im just getting tired of waiting to see this car do its thing!! There should be driving videos of the SS by professionals...there should pics and videos of the production like car doing burn outs and drifts and so on... its just dissapointing

They're trying to save money and, ya know..SURVIVE. Can't blame them there. Also, after watching the vid, I wouldn't call that advertisement for the Mustang over say the Challenger and Camaro. I think Edmund's pretty much bitched out ford on the Mustang in that vid.

I laughed. So much for supportive criticism..

This is an Edmunds review. You can't possibly blame Chevy for not having any reviews out yet with the same sort of hype.

so what if they rag on it...its still publicity...and people like to see burn outs/ hard driving...weve seen none of that except on the mules...and that doesnt mean anything. its just doesnt seen like they are trying to sell this thing...no one hardly knows about it except enthusiasts

You call that..hype? I don't think he sounded too enthused. Importf**s Also, if they don't sell..then more for us, right? But I'm betting it'll pick up in April when the car is released. Ford is probably reveling in the attention now because that's as far as it's going to go. If you went to say NAIAS, this was quite true. There were 5 people for every one person from the Mustang wreck that huddled around the Camaro.

They'll advertise. They just don't need to waste cash on advertising. Restructuring is first and foremost on their plates.

Is that wheel hopper suspension standard or optional on the Mustang GT? Kind of hard to put the 315 HP Mustang GT and the 426 HP Camaro SS in the same sentence much less a comparison test.

"Dropping the ball" is subjective. Especially considering a lot of Mustang stuff is third-party, and GM's cutting ALL advertising down. But don't worry -- there'll be some coming. They are going to stress the Camaro and Equinox in this year's marketing campaigns.

When I said hype, I meant the spinning rear wheels and discussion of it as compared to classic muscle. The Camaro reviews will annihilate this one.

Without any ads, 11k have been sold, and there haven't been any at dealerships to test drive. If GM doesn't make a single advertisement, they'll still sell every Camaro made.

Yeah... GM is dropping the ball on advertising hardcore.

I mean... ford and dodge are putting their cars to reviews... and what has gm managed to do?

Oh yeah. they got their Camaro to star in the last $707,675,744 grossing transformers movie... and the next one too.

Nobody has any idea that this car is coming.

You start advertising it when it is available for people to walk in the dealership, look at it and buy it. And you don't need lame videos/commercials of burnouts/drifting, the buyers that will be interested in that are an extremely small percentage of the numbers that will eventually buy this car. Commercials need to stress style, build quality, performance and fuel mileage.

Why advertise a car that isn't slated for production for another month and a half? The vast majority of the public, when they see an ad for a new car, they want to be able to go to the dealer the next day and sit in one and drive it, not go to the dealer and be told that the car isn't even out or be told that the dealer has already sold his next 6 months worth of allotment. The average joe who is shopping for a new car will not wait for a car once they see an ad. They want it now or they will go somewhere else and buy a different car. There is no use wasting all that money advertising this early when realistically it won't help their sells enough to even pay off the cost of advertising. GM is doing the smart thing by not advertising the Camaro and they shouldn't advertise until at least each dealer has their V6 showroom car, though personally I wouldn't advertise until there are cars sitting on the lots for several weeks at a time.

If you look at the history, Ford has always advertised early. GM has always held advetising until cars are at the dealers. GM will get absolutely crucified if they advertise and then people go to the dealer and they can't get one let alone see one.

Wouldn't surprise me if I see photos on Camaro5 of the first purchased Camaro by one of you guys before anyone actually takes a Mustang home.

Also, GM got BASHED for "overexposing" the Camaro in Transformers and 2 years of autoshow intros. So being a bit conservative in this difficult financial time is understandable.

The magazine embargo dates for the SS were set months ago. So just be patient.

91t/a you didn't seem like the type to bash GM just because you can't see a commercial.

As a Chevrolet dealer for over 40 years, I can tell you for a fact that the very first Camaros will be driven by the son's, daughters and wifes of the Chevrolet dealerships ! This is how it goes. My advise to any of you who really want a Camaro early is to bring your dealers owner a bottle of Chevis Regal and tell him his wife left him !
