aftermarket wheel torque spec?

I just had a set of American Racing Villian wheels installed and was wondering if the torque spec is the same as OEM? No info on this is available for non-dealers at American Racing or wheel pros website. The shop that installed had no idea so I told them to torque to 120 ft/lbs until I find out. Unless I hear otherwise I will re-torque to 140 per OEM spec as soon as I get about 25 miles on them. Is torque spec usually the same for alloy wheels?
Thanks

I believe the torque spec has more to do with the wheel stud than the wheel itself. I would torque to factory specs, but I'm no expert...

So the standard wheel torque is 140 ft/lbs? My fourth gen was 100.

Manual says 140 ft/lb. I use that. Trust me here, you don't want to lose a wheel while going 70

He's absolutely correct. The torque specs are a function of the stud, not the wheel.

We should start saying "Manual Specs" and "Factory Specs" to be specific when it comes to the Camaro. The actual factory that builds the Camaro sets them at 100 ft-lbs, even though the owner's manual says 140 ft-lbs. Don't believe me? Anyone that has never loosened a lug nut on their Camaro, grab a torque wrench and set it to 90 ft lbs to see if you can loosen a lug before the wrench clicks. Then set it at 95, 97, 98, 99, 100 etc. to see where it comes off. Just about every Camaro I've tested (and owned) is set at 100 ft-lbs. From the "factory".

yeah...and I don't think its a stud function...anyone with race wheels that reads the paperwork will know.

Correct. Torque is per the type, size, and grade of bolt you're torquing, not what you're torquing.

Installed my Forgestar F14's, so when I took off my stock wheels, the lugs were at 100 ft/lbs. And after reading many threads/posts here on C5 it seems to be a great debate 100vs140.

Well if you have aftermarket wheels, chances are you have non-factory lugs and I don't think they are spec'd to take 140 ft/lbs. I had ruined a wheel stud and lug nut trying to get them to 140. I replaced my rear wheel stud and got everything back together today. All my aftermarket lugs are set to 110 just for good measure, and will recheck after 25 miles.
