L99 RWHP

Just curious for some of you who have the setup... what RWHP numbers do you guys put down for LTs, CAI, catback, and LS3 conversion cam swap... looking at something along the lines of Jannetty's 470 RWHP package after the conversion obviously...

What numbers are you L99 / LS3 conversion guys putting down with that package? Also, what % of loss are you losing on the auto from the crank to the wheels? It seems from what I have noticed, we are looking at a 20-28% loss from the crank to the wheels for the auto.

Mine was done at Livernois with a milder cam and you can see my numbers.

My drive-train loss ended up being 19% from the results on a dyno, which seems to be about average for the L99.

Unless you take out your exact engine and dyno it on an engine dyno, then dyno the whole car immediately after, I don't see any possible way to fully determine the drivetrain loss...
You can guestimate, but that's exactly what it is, a guess.
I guessed mine by taking the stock ~400hp, and stock my car dyno'd at 321hp, so about 19%, but again, that's just a guess. All engines perform differently.

I'd like to have a number for you, but I have yet to dyno since my conversion ,
plus I need long tubes and a real exhaust (I have DT shorties w/muffler delete)

For a good comparison the LG motorsports G6X3 cam (same dyno) made 496rwhp on the LS3 and 453rwhp on the L99. The L99 made 43 less rwhp and is what I would expect with the extra drivetrain loss thru the automatic transmission and stall converter.Although down 43rwhp I would bet the farm on the L99 at the track.

don't forget the L99 has lower compression as well which plays a role in the lower numbers.

we've made anywhere from 480-450rwhp depending on all the mods around the heads/cam. Remember the converter & wheel selection plays into the dyno numbers a lot!

Yea, my ultimate goal is still a DD, so I do need to find a cam that will post decent numbers, with drive ability and mpg coming first... I will take it to a drag strip once.. maybe twice a year. Don't really plan on doing a course track...so I need to justify if a cam is really worth it? I know I would like to change the oil pump and add a 3200 or 3600 stall as well...

You guys make a great VVT cam, but I've been researching and looking toward your products, as well as lashaway and jannetty into just doing the conversion.. and then taking my time to decide which direction to go

Because it is a DD, I am not willing to give up the 20 inch stock wheels or the like... I know that will hinder me, but as long as I can beat my buddies bolt on only 5.0 on a strip, I don't care

I got married and bought a house this year... so 2011 tax return will be play time money lol

Yeap... The L99 will kill the LS3 at the track.
Also another thing on Dyno numbers the 4th gear on the M6 is closer to a 1:1 ratio than the L99 .. so it's not a true comparision.

I just did the L99-LS3 Conversion. I have LT's, CAI, Catback and put in JRE cam. My car made 412rwhp on a dynojet.

I like the LG's G5X2 232/240 on a 112, a stall, and gears.

You all know that Dyno To Dyno numbers can vary widely so this may not be a fair way to compare cams or set ups.

Rear Wheel Alignment can affect RWHP Numbers.

On my Dyno We consistently see 330-335 RWHP out of Stock L99 Cars, with this cam, LT headers, CAI, SLP underdrive, and a tune on PUMP GAS 93 octane we see 420-425 RWHP.

So about 90 RWHP over Stock.

Pull the Heads and Cut them to raise compression you could see another 10-20 or so depending, and another 10-15 with porting.

Thank you for considering JRE.

Ted.

I agree with Ted as dyno numbers vary greatly as do track times based on air and driver capabilities. However, I still prefer track times. Yes I have the supporting mods for the track and will continue to build on them as necessary.

With just basic bolt-ons, headers, exhaust, CAI, I made 341 RWHP. After a few passes a couple weeks ago (13.1), I did find some concerns with the tune. Nothing major, but I am sure there is more there.

Car will go in sometime in the next 2-3 weeks for an LS3 conversion, Heintz Racing custom cam, 3200 Vigalante, Melling oil pump, trunions, Patriot Dual Extreme valve springs, as well as ATI underdrive pulley. I'll post it when available. With the heat lately, one can only expect so much from the dyno. My cam selection was based on my needs (street and strip) and not for dyno purposes.
