If your intake was completely submerged in water while the engine was running, your engine is probably hydro-locked and destroyed. Have it towed to the dealer, wait for a replacement engine, and hope that your insurance somehow covers it for some reason.

Lets assume insurance does not cover it, the warranty will not the dealership knows that I had an intake on it. How much will this cost?

should've known better than to drive in the rain/water w/ that vacuum down there..let everything dry out; sounds like your motor may have just suffocated.

I did this to my Jeep. Its probably not as bad as you think as the engine will shut down right way if it ingests water.

In my jeep, I ran the hood into a BIG mud hole and the water rushed over the hood and it stopped. I towed it out, took out all the air filter and spark plugs, cranked the engine to blow out all the water from the cylinders, dried everything up, put it back together and continued playing for the rest of the day. When I got home I changed the oil and it was good as new. We were down for maybe 1/2 hour in the woods... no biggie.

As long as you left it off and didnt try to start it full of water you "should" be ok...

Also, I had a CAI on my C6 that ingested water twice... it was fine. You just need to get the water out of the cylinders. It cant really get past the rings so its just sitting in your cylinder heads. It will blow right out the spark plug holes.

This is common on JetSkis too. They hydrolock all the time. A quick evacuation of the cylinder heads and your back on the water!

JUST DO NOT TRY TO START IT WITH THE PLUGS IN. If you force it, you WILL blow out the rings. Hopefully it shut off and you left it off!

First I am sorry to hear that and wish you tue best. A good garage can remove the plugs and drain the water, likely very little damage done. The fellow above has some great advice....

But I find it very difficult to believe, even if you placed the tube directly in a bucket of water there would not be enough vacuum force to hydro lock the engine given that the injen has a built in bypass - the clean air intake portal. Well, assuming you were not full throttle into a lake or anything like that.

First thing to do is call your insurance. It should be covered under comprehensive. Tell them your car is hydrolocked.

When your engine hydrolocks it bends the rods and will never be the same even if it runs for a period of time afterwards.

Good luck, and hopefully you have good insurance

Now this - this is a situation in which hydro lock would occur. Seems you had your head abbot you. Good stuff.

Me too.

I did the exact same thing with my 1995 Wrangler. Even after the hydrolock, I squeezed 142,000 miles out of it. It was the crappy 4 cylinder too.

What I REALLY miss is my 2002 Wrangler X series with the inline 6. I would jump on the right one in a heartbeat if the opportunity ever came along.

Now for the OP. Hydrolocking, like any other issue, has many variables involved. The best outcome is the one noted by the Jeep owner. The worst is a complete engine replacement. The only way to know is to get it to the shop if you aren't mechanically inclined enough to make the determination. A new motor is about 10k installed. Another person on here blew his motor and that's what he paid to have a new engine installed, so that's my source of info.

I'm guessing if it started it was not hydrolock. Couldn't hurt to change the oil though. It was likely the mentioned suffocation that killed the combustion. When you tried to start it did the engine turn very very slowly or just normal speed with no start?

Good deal. If you blew out any rings, you'd know. it would not be "running fine". Seems you dodged a bullet!

Change to oil for sure. Maybe take off the intake tube just to see what it looks like in there. If you air filter was wet, may need a new one.

Yeah thats how I got it to start, I took off the intake and poked the valve and some water came out. I tried starting it with it off and it didnt work, then put it back on, and it started, and it went into a normal idle like nothing was wrong.

The filter itself is dry, I think, the hydroseal is still on it. but as of right now it is running / sounding completely normal. I am gonna get the oil changed and have the dealership check it out to make sure its 100%
