A couple quick ZL1 questions..

1. Im not sure what the gear ratios are on the ctsv/ctsv coupe, but will the zl1 have the same or will it have lower gears? Is there any info on this yet, I can't remember coming across any?

2. I know I read somewhere in an article about where the extra 30hp in the zl1 is coming form compared to the V but I went back and couldn't find the article, could someone refresh my memory on how its making the extra power? thanks.

1. - The ZL1 will have 3.73 gears compared to what I believe are the Caddy's 3.42 gears.

2. - I believe it was said that the ZL1 has a modified intake system that pulls air from two locations to help give it an additional 25HP. I did not read any where that there were any mechanical changes to increase HP over the Caddy.

Also the Dual Mode Exhaust adds some HP.

^^^ This ^^^

I remember seeing 3.73s on the 'V, but I think that was an option...

The intercooler is a little more efficient in ZL1, also, which bumps the power a bit. EPS and a free'er flowing exhaust round out the changes ('V has neither EPS nor bi-mode exhaust ).

If 580 is the horsepower rating, what would be a good estimate for the hp at the rear wheels?

Probably close to 500 at the tires.

i hate to do this comparison yet again, but its just so easy to. The gt500 has "550" and dynos up to and over 500 on a dyno jet, so hopefully the zl1 will be able to put down at least more than that.

I'm not questioning what you're finding, however, I will say that IMO the GT500 is underrated. ZL1 is definatley going to be needing to make all the power it can, because though most of the time you gotta' be able to actually plant the power to use it, there are going to be many times where you just plain need more power to stay out front.

I would say that a 16% driveline loss is basically what most people see on a lot of GM's heavier late model sports cars.

580 HP - 16% friction loss = 487 rwHP
556 ft-lbs - 16% friction loss = 467 rwTQ

If the cars dyno (on a variety of dynos) significantly higher than my projected numbers, that would mean that GM has understated the HP/TQ figures.
