How would you feel if the 2013 has more?
Here's a poll for all the folks who have secured a 2012 ZL1 order or who are looking to pick up one. If GM were to " up the ante" with the 2013 ZL1, performance/power-wise, how would it make you feel?
Explanations on why you voted the way you did would be appreciated. Last edited by tooslow; 01-21-2012 at 05:18 PM. |

I know several guys who bought a 2004 LS1 GTO with 350 hp who were pretty upset when they came out with the 2005 LS2 GTO with 400 hp.
This is another reason why it's best to wait a year or so before buying a brand new car, or the latest model of a current car. Believe it or not, the ZL1 will also have a couple of bugs to work out, which would give me more confidence by waiting a year or so.

If manufacturers stopped developing and improving on their products year after year just in case they upset those who have already purchased, then the ZL1 wouldn't exist in the first place....

I'm not going to lie, I'd be upset. I fully expect for there to be improvements down the line and have no delusions of forever having the highest performing Camaro ever produced.
But with that said, even though history has shown that manufacturers have upped the ante the following year after the release of a new model (Z06, Mustang GT), this situation would be even worse with the very short model year. Significant performance improvements only 5 months after the introduction of the model is sure to rub many 2012 owners the wrong way. With that said, I highly doubt we'll see anything like that for the 2013MY. 2014, on the other hand, would be a great year to really up the ante. Either way though, I know I'm going to enjoy the hell out of my 2012 for a very long time. You can play the waiting game forever... I'm done waiting.

think about the guys who bout a 12' 500 and then bam 13' 500 surpasses it AND it came out of no where... so yes 13's COULD in fact carry more... we will see

If its 10 to 20 HP more, it wouldn't bother me cause you probably won't be able to tell. now if its 50+ HP which I doubt, then I would be upset as it will probably push it into 11 seconds territory on media reviews and be on par with the 2013 gt500.

2. There's going to end up being about 14 months between release of the 12 500 and 13 500, not 5 months. 3. Rumors of a 620 horse 5.8 have been around for at least 9 months, and the 5.8 was confirmed quite a while ago, long before Ford made the official announcement, so I'd hardly call it "out of nowhere". |

The ZL1 vert is a 2013MY and has the same HP. So, I doubt the coupe would have more.

Look how long and how much time and development has gone into this car, and to turn around in just a year and throw in more power. With how long people have waited for this car, and the anticipation... I'm sure a lot of people would be pretty bummed who will be getting the 12' model in the coming weeks/months. If this is the case, why would't they just wait until next year to get the ultimate Camaro... Of course more is better, but I'm not sure they would do that, that quick. I'm pretty confident they are happy with what they have made and soon we can sit back and see how this all plays out when they hit the street.

![]() If it ever did bother me....I'd be quick to remember that for ~$1000.00, I could do it, too! Here's the thing, though....I don't think the ZL1 will be drastically changed until the next model year. I could be wrong...but this appears to be the zenith of the 5th gen...and the team appears to be confident even as-is, it'll be as quick as the closest competition's answer.

I would have to agree the differances between the MY12 and MY13 will be slight imo. You might see some cosmetic changes perhaps a pully change
to up the hp some. But they want to be able to keep this car under warranty without the chance of to many problems and plus to keep the cost down. Perhaps will see another chance for a couple of new colors etc. Off topic was thier any official word on what the new mustang GT MY13 was going to start out as far as MSRP? I just wonder if with all those horses its going to be able to hookup or just spin. ![]() Anyway not waiting for MY13 if I can help it, this car has plenty of HP in the stock version for me already! Gosh the wait is a killer and that exposed carbon fiber hood on constraint is making it take longer for the car to be made .

Why would it matter? A more powerful ZL1 for 2013 (or 2014 or 2015 or whenever) isn't going to make the 2012 any slower.
Besides, it would be a massive waste of time & resources to build 580 hp ZL1s for only 5 months or so. If they were going to do it, they wouldn't have announced that its 580 hp, they would have kept the CTS-V's rating of 556. Plus, they probably wouldn't have made a big deal of the 7:41 'ring time.
