$128,000 Z-28 Last night on BJ Auction
Did any of you guys catch the Barrett Jackson Auction on the Speed Channel last night. There was a gorgeous Z-28 on there that went for $128,000, I believe it was a 1969.
It had the RS emblem on the grill and the Camaro Society had originally ruled that it was an incorrect restoration. They had to eat crow when the original owner produced photos of the car at the dealership on day of purchase with both the RS and Z-28 emblems on it. Muscle cars are still bringing a lot of cash at these auctions, there were a couple of Mach 1s that also sold for a bundle. Edit: Sorry Mod I put this in the wrong forum Steve

Yes, this was a rebroadcast of an earlier auction. There were/are a number of issues suggested about this car that have come to light that could be heading for legal action...if you believe what you read on different camaro websites. Apparently, the 2nd owner sold the vin tag, cowl tag, & upper hidden vin off of the car that was presumably beyond restoration. Many years later, these same items were sold on ebay (around 2003). Several years later, the VIN appears on a restorable Camaro body sold for $128k at the BJ auction in Vegas.
As for the photos, how can a car have a license plate already attached to it on the day of purchase?? I realize that, in some states, you keep the same license plate regardless of the car, but I do not know how common that was back on November 15th, 1968 in Valier, MT where the car was originally purchased (according to the Protect-O-Plate). There appears to be some fraud going on with "desirable" classic cars and arrests have been made in other states of individuals restoring cars and "misrepresenting" their pedigree. |

The big money world of car collecting is no place for amateurs. That said....it should be interesting to see how prices hold up this year with the world economy going in circles. I can't wait till next week. Speedvision now broadcasts in HD which should make it even better.

I will take a bite of that crow as well....No way that RS emblem belongs on the grill. The RS Z/28 would not have been built with it there. If it was originaly sold that way it was a mistake by the factory but unless they have fantastic documentation, I call
-Mark. P.S. - even if it WAS done at the factory, it needs to come OFF!
