Indy'08 Auction issues,,,

Linda, who handled the charity auction so well at the Indy'08 show posted this on chirpthird.com:

"I received an email from the CICC person handling the money from the auction and this is what she had to say --

'just so you're aware of what we're battling with. We currently have 9 people who have stopped payment on their auction payments. (We're talking about $2200 worth!) I am currently trying to correspond with people and ask that they re send money order or cashier's check payment, or that they return the items to us.'

I can't believe anyone would really do that! If you know anyone who has participated and not paid please encourage them to do so. It's for the Kids at the Hospital -- Not for the CICC!"

I wasn't there, but that is messed up. If you are going to bid you need to pay.

I agree, thats the lowest of the low. You are giving a close knit bunch of enthustiests a black eye. You are stealing from sick children. Some people are just low lifes!

+1! We should all see who these people are! I bid on some of that stuff in good faith and knowing I had to pay up right away. I would be disappointed if one of those items was either the fender or the concept spoiler which I was the last bidder to balk before the hammer. Worst of all is the fact that this money went to such a worthy cause. To put a deliberate stop check on a payment for an auction item is absolutely low.

If these people step up and return the products we should have our own auction on this site to make it up to the charity!

Just received a clarification. Not as bad as first reported:

"Just to clear up matters, there are not that many payments involved and it is not, as a whole, a matter of people payments being stopped.
Due to a flaw in the Paypal system (or a protection as the case may be for their members), as all payments were made by the individual but from one IP address, they have suspected fraudulent activity. Paypal has reversed some of the payments back to the individuals, but they are already re-paying for the items. Again... to be clear... this is a Paypal issue, not an issue with the individuals. I am confident that it will all be resolved quickly and would recommend that everyone let CICC and the individuals get this fixed with Paypal and not make more of it than is necessary.

I appreciate your "upset" but want to assure you that this is a Paypal issue, not an issue with any of the individuals that bid.

Thank you though for the concern.

Deanna
CICC Secretary"

I'll post here what I posted on Chirp3rd:

its Wednesday now... give 'em until Friday to pay up... if they're not paid in full by 5pm CDT on Friday, post names and locations of the buyers... you gotta pay to play, and the rest of the f-body community will handle getting items back and making good on other auction offers.

this same stance holds true knowing that its a PayPal issue... let the bidders know the problem, give them 48 hours to make things right, then post names and let the f-body community do the rest.
