reducing the crackling of new catback Atak exhaust

I put on Borla Catback exhaust on my 2010 2SS LS3 and absolutely love it. Those Mustangs really here me coming now. But when down shifting it really pops and crackles more than I would like. Is there a way to reduce the crackling on downshift? It's more when I let off the gas is when I hear this.
Does this go away after time?

That's my favorite part of an aftermarket exhaust... doesn't go away.

I was wondering if getting a tune up would help. Though I don't think my car needs a tune up. I do like it, but it's really loud.

Yes. You can have your tuner get rid of it. It's a fuel saving measure, sorta the manual's version of AFM (sorta)

Thanks for the info Stieger, sspaul, that's what I am currently doing. Can anyone explain what's involved in a "tune". Is this something I can get done at the dealer? Does it void warranty?

Tune= voided warranty

You could contact Jannetty Racing. You can buy one of there handheld SCT tuners. Give JRE some information about your car and they will create a tune specific to your. I believe they will send it to you via email which you can download into the SCT and then plug it into your vehicle.

I haven't tuned mine at all, but this is my understanding from what i have read on this forum.

All aftermarket exhausts do it. Stock does a little but the mufflers hide it. My Outlaws really do it, wanted to not run the stock resonators as it sounded great but popping to much! A resonated x pipe or after market bullet style resonators will help alot, but will make the car to quiet imo.

All manuals do it, but with factory mufflers you usually can't hear it. My Tacoma, wrangler, and two Camaros did it. Not exact on the specifics of it, has to do with excess fuel and the engine detonating/misfiring. Autos don't really do it because the torque converter will allow the engine to slip independently of the transmission at an idle throttle position (or not producing enough rpm to transfer power through the converter). Pretty much if you leave the clutch in and engine brake, your engine RPMs are still high relative to driveline rpm but the amount of air getting into the engine (foot off the gas) is less. Somebody else may be able to explain it better, but pretty sure it's something to do with detonating or extra fuel hitting hot exhaust.

As for getting rid of it, as said, a tune will help or you can get J-pipes which will from what I hear pretty much eliminate it. Look for member VRbaron on here. He has the outlaw mufflers like me, but with J-pipes and his popping is gone he says.

the popping sound is from the ECM pulling timing and fuel on deceleration. like others said is a gas saving feature and the only way to get it gone is with a tune (my stock 2011 SS popped on deceleration, just not as noticable with factory exhaust)

L99s do this also. I actually liked it better in my L99.
