Help:do I need to Lower the Camaro for 22??

I am looking to get 22in Black rims for my 2ss...

Help: I went to a Rim Store and the man suggest that if I went with a 22in staggered set up, I would need to lower my car by 1.5in? Otherwise, it will not look right? Any suggestions? If so, what springs do one suggest? What are the ride diffrfence if I lowered the Camaro? Any problem selling it?

Also, he recommends Gloss Black rims over MatteBlack rims on my black Camaro? The problem is that most company do not make Gloss Black rims? He suggest to powder coat the custom rims for additional $800.

Any input appreciated?

Will

I had the same suggestions made to me about my black 2ss. I decided to go with 20s all the way aound, the ride will be rougher because of the lack of tire when you run a 22. also lowering you car will make it look cool but will also add the roughness of the ride, making the springs smaller therfor less room to travel and stiffer. I have a black 2ss and i have 20inch TSW Valenicias on it.. They are gloss black with a chrome lip. I love them, personally i think they are the sickest wheel on the market, but i have seen tons of cars with the matte black wheels and i think it also looks pretty raw. comes down to personal opinion. If you are looking to get tsw valencia in gloss black be prepared for a wait, i waited arund 3.5 months just to get them made and shipped to the U.S.

There are tons of pictures in this section showing 22" wheels on cars that have been both lowered and left stock height. Let those be your guide.

In my PERSONAL opinion, I'm in agreement with your guy at the rim store. 22's on a stock height car looks "incomplete". It's like a half-finished project. Why spend a couple grand on new wheels and tires for cosmetic enhancement, but fail to finish the enhancement by lowering it? They typically go hand in hand.

Regarding ride quality...I run Pfadt springs on mine, and I'm telling you...if ride quality suffered it is MINIMAL. I've had 8-10 lowered cars (Cobras, Saleens, 4th Gen Camaros, SVT Lightnings, Audi S4 etc) and I was able to easily feel the difference in most of them...but my 2010 SS still rides great. That's a testament to the quality shocks used by GM and the Spring rate/design used by Pfadt.

I wouldn't do lowering springs on 22s, coilovers are another story. 22s already are ginving up ride quality anyways. Secondly, Matte Black looks fine on a gloss black car, satin black is my favorite black finish, just a little sheen. I don't like black wheels in general because it looks like a spare, Brushed Aluminum is sweet!

lowered on 22's with H&R springs... The car rides very good and handles good aswell... you can do springs or coilovers as 2SS45TH stated....
my springs are 1.7 rear and 1.8 front. tires are 265-30 front and 315-25 rear.... just to give you an idea

WONSS is not in the minority by any means by lowering with drop springs, I live in Coloraod, with rough roads, so my perception of ride quality is probably skewed. By the way, diggin the look ^

I think they all should be lowered no matter what size wheel
your running. I've got H&R springs on mine and rides just
fine. Plan on doing coilovers in the future tho, want it a little
bit lower.

WONS, are you having any problems running 25s in the rear, did you have to do any mods? I want to run ace alloy convex 22s 9inch in the front and 10.5 in the rear. Thanks

The cars just look so much better after they've been lowered, whether it's on 18" or 22" they just look better!
