What to do with the trunk after jl sub install
Hello and good morning all...
I just installed a double din metra kit and a jl stealth box with the 3 10's in the trunk. I had the loud rattle that was between the trunk and the rear window seal... solved that with some foam insulation tape. I have more rattle when I listen to some bigger bass tracks. I would guess dynomatt would be the next thing to do. After adding all the weight with the subs and box, I would like to keep the weight to a min.... Any other product that is lighter? Also..... Are people taking out the deck 6 by 9 speakers with the big sub in the rear? Thank you Bill |

Dynamat is the answer-
Unless you are running an SPL car, you really only need about 25% coverage. You can also use Dynamat liquid, it is lighter but a HUGE PITA to apply.

What 25% to cover?
Also what about the 6 by 9's? |

What he means is that a 1 inch x 1 inch square of dynamat will deaden a 2 inch by 2 inch square of metal. In other words, you are only required to cover 25% of the exposed area.
To save weight, use dynamat extreme. Removing the 6x9's is up to you. If you don't care about rear fill or don't have a wife that thinks the kids need it, then I would say remove them (to save weight and improve front imaging).

Since the back for the speakers are open to the truck... are they being affected when the sub hits? Can you build a bow around the back of the 6 by 9?

You are thinking about this too much. This has never been an issue in the thousands of stereo installs. Every car made with speakers in the rear deck (regardless of the speaker size) is open to the trunk, and thus the sub. It's not an issue. Keep them or don't, it's your choice.
