Quick Break-in Question...
hey guys, i just got my car last week and I already have about 400 miles on it... i believe the manual says to not exceed 4000rpm and no excessivly hard breaking...
anyway, how are you supposed to vary the RPMs up to 4000? on my daily commute a normal drive my rpms would stay between 1.5 and 2.5k ... in order to get it up to 3500 and 4000 ive been accelerating quickly like from 45mph straight to 70mph... but in that way, the rpms only shoot that high for a few seconds... only other thing i can think of is putting it in like 3rd or 4th gear wehn im on the highway and let the rpms sit at 4000 for a few minutes... is this correct? or to rough... whats the best way to go about this?

Standard or auto?
If auto just move it into "m" and move through some of the gears, drop down to 3rd or 2nd etc. (same with a standard) |

Break it in hard. My car saw 6000RPM on the way home from the dealer with less than 15 miles on it!

umm the manual states not to exceed 4000rpm ... i was asking for profesional opinions here... i think GM knows the best way to break in their own engines, which you did not follow, so if your rings dont seal properly, you will have less power in the long run

Hey I'm right there with you. I am so paranoid that I am gonna do the break in procedure wrong. I am following a happy medium between driving it hard and doing what the manual says. Not going above 4,000 RPMs and not going above 100 mph. I am getting in on it and trying to vary RPMs every so often. I would suggest not letting the engine sit at 3800 RPMs for too long. Make sure you shift if you are in manual mode. Just run through them. If I find myself sitting at a lower RPM too long, I will shift into a lower gear to pass someone just to vary the RPMs up. These engines are built tough. Do whatever break-in you are comfortable with. Its your car. Have fun with it!!!!!!!

lol opps, i already went 110 just to see how the handling was at high speeds... and wow was i suprised at the stability it showed...
so i guess i will start riding in a lower gear at 3000-4000 rpms a little bit more for a minute or so here or there just to vary them, instead of just pushing the pedal down more to speed up and pass someone
