Small Cutout in Front Grille -- what is this?

Noticed this small section that looks to be cut out in the front grille. What is this for? Can the cover be removed? If so, could this be a good place to mount a front-facing camera?

Cool, I noticed that as well and was curious. That makes sense. I guess the hook is behind there?

No hook behind there. It's the location to add one.

I think it was added so you didn't have to take the hole bumper off to add the tow hook.

You install a tow hook receiver behind it, in the sub bumper and then if you are on a track or tan of the road into a ditch and need a tow; you open it, install the tow hook and then the truck hooks up to it to pull you out of whatever you are stuck in or w/e. Just installed mine the other day. Here is a picture with the door open and hook installed.

European requirement, great for us too. Wish it were on the earlier models.

All you have to do is take the front fascia off & install one on the earlier models.

Appreciate the info!! Is there a flat "floor" behind the door? Tried to draw what I mean.

I don't plan on installing a toe-hook and wonder if it might be a good mounting place for a front camera.

Tried looking at some peoples install threads for the toe-hooks but can't get a good look behind the door.

Should just be the vertical surface of the front bumper bar. We didn't get the threaded connection for a tow hook either.

Yes, it is just the flat sub bumper. Just open the door and look. It pops right open and then you can put it right back in. It even has a lanyard attached to it so it doesn't fall off.

Mount your front camera to the bottom of your license plate holder. Pics in my mod thread below.
