4 years, 4 months, Proving grounds tour, late to the date…

4 years, 4 months, Proving grounds tour, late to the date... and the wild ride has a started a new chapter in the saga of my Camaro madness.

Jan 2006
The concept was revealed and at the time I was in college working on my AAS. I had made the decision that since my truck was going to be paid off when I graduated and I had paid for school out of my own pocket that I deserved a reward. That reward was going to be in the form of a car, a muscle car. At the time I was shopping the Mustang and soon the Challenger... but then ran across the Camaro and fell in love.

Little did I know that it was going to be a bumpy, but ultimately VERY rewarding journey…

I found Camaro5 in March 2 months later, joined, and never looked back. We all schemed, planned, fought over how to find and free Shunt, and drooled over every tidbit of information. I even managed to get in on some juicy insider stuff along the way.

Most memorably is my jaunt out to the GM Proving grounds (now closed) in Mesa Arizona on April 6th 2008. Where after getting an amazing tour by punchy, rides around the track in corvettes, and a Q&A session with some GM engineers, a bunch of us from Camaro5 got to see/touch/fondle 3 pre-production Camaros (Read the full story Here).

After that I hunkered down to work hard, finish school, make money, annoy my friends, family, and coworkers with my Camaro madness, and pay off bills. As is the normal with life things don’t always follow the plan but after seeing the official release and pre-orders pass by, SEMA, specialty cars, etc come and go, it had finally become THAT time.

The first week of April 2010 I began my quest to fill a dream, finding that perfect Camaro, I had the financing, I had the down payment, but finding the elusive white, 1SS, manual was becoming a challenge. I even had a broker searching all the dealers in the south western United States. By the time the broker started looking out of state I said “screw it”. If I’m going to do an out-of-state purchase I’m going to the one person I KNOW I can trust.

CamaroScotty!

Luckily Scott had just what I was looking for already on order, even being built the week of April 12th.

Follow the easiest, most informative, and comfortable car purchase I have EVER been through. Top it all off with the special Scotty package that I can never give enough thanks for and what is the result.

This is.

I won’t repost shot after shot that I have (that’s what the members journal Here is for).
All I can say is that this car has completely changed how I view GM products, the service (at least from reputable dealers), and the faith held by people like CamaroScotty (Scott Volkert), Scott Settlemire, Al Oppenheiser, and Cheryl Pilcher.

That change and the memories revolving around this car are something nobody can take away and couldn’t have happened any other way.

Thank you GM, Scotty, Scott, Al, Cheryl, Camaro5, The Oshawa family, and the countless of others that it took to get this car to my door step.

And thank YOU - (on behalf of everyone at GM and our suppliers and dealers) for "keepin' the faith" --

You even mention that you 'could' have chosen a Mustang or Challenger - but you chose Camaro - and for that we're very grateful!

Now -- go enjoy your Camaro - enjoy the feeling that "Perma-grin" gives you - and we hope that your new Camaro will be the best car you've ever owned!

(.....did I mention that notes like yours give US "perma-grin?")

Andrew, I actually read your post and was so PERMA-PROUD (new Camaro term pending approval...) you enjoyed the experience, I didn't know what to post! I went to bed with a smile, knowing I made a difference.

It was a PLEASURE to help bringing your Camaro dreams to reality. I certainly TRY to create an experience that is second to none, and unlike any people may have had in the past! Every long distance delivery is unique - and yes, even the "gift packs" vary from time to time....but I look at it as required - some people have NEVER bought a car via email / phone and have strong fear of doing it.....then the magic moment, a hauler with a Camaro arrives.... You get in, turn the key, and realize it's ALL YOURS! The only thing missing is a THANK YOU HANDSHAKE, but I hope the "gift pack" makes up for it! And if you are EVER in Wisconsin, you are very much welcome to drop by and say HI...That handshake will be waiting!

I enjoyed your post, the full story, some of which I didn't know....but I do know when someone calls me, they are serious about getting a Camaro, hassle and headache free! Your business was GREATLY APPRECIATED by me, and all my co-workers here at Newman! Just keep posting photo's and sharing the stories - don't let a good story end.

Thanks again!
