Disappointed with the DC Auto Show.

I thought I read at the end of December each car show in 2009 would have a production model Camaro we could sit in.

I went to the DC Auto Show today to check out which Camaro they had for display. They had the IBM and the SIM. Both of them looked AWESOME, but they were roped off and the doors were closed. They stated they were pre-pro vehicles, and the instructions were not to allow anyone to see the interior or sit in them. :(

I drove 1 hour there and two hours back through rush hour just to see the color.

I am very thankful for the opportunity to go to Philly as a guest of GM, and Scott and crew did an outstanding job with the event. If I would have known the vehicles were pre-pro and closed I would not have driven up to DC.

I think all Scott said was there would be at least one Camaro at every major auto show. Never said anything about being able to sit in them.

I'm not sure what Scott said, but after reading your report and bob2the2nd's in the "DC Auto Show Pics" thread, I won't be wasting the time to go to the show tomorrow - Thanks!

As I said in the other thread, I would save the gas money if I was driving from any distance. The car is definitely beautiful and better in person than in pictures though. I was also expecting we would be able to sit in these two.

Sorry

I'm glad that I did not go, I would have been in that traffic too. Sorry you had to deal with not being able to sit and see in the cars and the traffic, I now all about that brother.

Here's some posts from Scott that I could find regarding the shows I don't believe it was ever stated that a full production car will be at each show...

The issue: the cars you've seen up to this point do NOT have production intent door panels or I.P.s -- many of the parts are 'hard' plastic or vinyl and have not been properly grained -- meaning that the 'grained' finish you see is sprayed on -- and if you and 10,000 of your closest friends were to get in and out of them, the sprayed finish would rub off -- meaning that people would not be pleased with 'quality' -- so --
...two choices:

>Put a production intent Camaro in as many shows as possible with the doors closed

or

>No Camaro

We chose the first one.

Tidbit -- the Red car at Greenville is the car we showed when we 'unveiled' the Camaro in Detroit this summer.

Originally we ordered it as an SS/RS for autoshows.........but then we decided to make it into a V6 (appearance-wise).....so it has the appearance of a 2LT with RS.........however, open the hood and there's a V8! (which, of course, you can't order....)

honestly, while it would have been great to sit in them I really liked the fact that there were 2 different interiors here. It was nice to see the gray and the cream/tan/whatever color in person to see the difference. That said the philly auto show is clearly the one to be at in the mid Atlantic region (just wish i would have jumped back into the camaro more than once).

that said them being roped off was pretty weird. I understand if you cant get in them but even the ZR1 could be touched, and the only cars I remember being totally off limits at this show were owned vehicles/totally concept vehicles/lambos/Ferraris.

truthfully though glad ive gone. This car is fantastic to look at.

OK - look -- I understand why you want to sit in the cars ....

WE want you to sit in the cars -- but we won't open a car if the interior isn't 'finished' -- meaning that the panels aren't in 'final grain' -- if we DID - the spray material we put on the panels would rub off.....

...........and then we'd hear all kinds of thoughts on 'cheap' interiors.....

............and WORSE, we'd have people thinking that all interiors would have the graining falling off.............

So........this is a case of:

You are Damned if you do -- and you are Damned if you do not.

We believe we should have at least one Camaro in every show...unfortunately some must still be locked up.

I went to Indy and Philly, so I don't think I'll be going anywhere else...but, can we at least know in advance where the car shows are that we'll (the members here) be able to sit in a car???
