Seking some advice....
So I don't have to repost the whole story here is the link to the problem with the car.....http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70133
Last time I spoke to my service manager at the dealership was around 4:30 yesterday. They still have no clue what is causing the ticking/knocking noise in the car. They have been going back and forth talking with GM to find the problem. Apparently I'm the first one with this problem, and I'm not meaning in the Camaro but with this engine....GEE just my luck! They have mentioned replacing the engine altogether, this is where I'm looking for advice. Would this hurt the value of the car any, or possibly cause any other problems with the car down the road?? Would I be being to unrational if I demanded they just give me a new car?? It isn't at the point for a lemon law yet this is the first time we have had to take it in for this problem and I honestly do not want to go through that process again (had a 1999 Ford Contour that we lemon lawed within 9 months of buying). They have been great through this whole week keeping me updated at least once a day and gave me a rental without even having to ask for one, wish it was another Camaro but no luck there got a new crew cab silverado...still better than I was expecting for a rental. I just LOVE my car and want it back like it was!!

If they put a new engine in it, it may hurt the value 40 years down the road.
If the car isn't paid for, see if they will make a payment for you, since you don't ahve the car. I would just get the new engine and drive her that way. |

Are you using 92+ octane?

If it were me... I would not trust that car as far as I could through it... I would demand a new car. If the entire engine needs to be replaced this quickly and with this low amount of miles... I would hate to see what else will go wrong further down the line... maybe even after your warrantee is up.

Take it to another dealer to get a second opinion. They should log it to see if the knock sensors are picking anything up at least.

Its not like cancer. The engine is built seperate from the car. Its not going to spread.

camaroluver, from what you have described in your posts, your dealer is doing all he knows to do, PLUS SOME, which is a lot more that a lot of dealers would, seems you have a good dealer. Seems to me they are doing the right thing, let nature take its course adn see where it goes. if need be, since the dealer has gotten GM involved to help solve your problem, they give you an intire new engine......let them do it, it souldn't cause you any problems down the road.

Yes ALWAYS! I believe it is 93 octane where I normally get gas. This problem just started and it has 9,000 miles so I'm sure it isn't a issue with using lower octane gas. Quote:
Thanks for the input guys, makes me feel a little better! Still playing the waiting game, right now it is up to GM to make a decision to either keep looking for the problem or go another route.

for what its worth... I watch a 69 ZL1 blue Camaro go through Barrett Jackson. It was a 1 of 4 car or something rediculas. Behind it was a little trailer with an engine on it. The car had the engine replaced under warranty in 1970. The other engine was the original engine that was put in the car. The owner took the old broken one too. The car did over $800,000 at the auction with the new engine in place.
Now, do I think any of our cars are going to be like that... no, but the moral of the story is, take the engine, it wont matter 40 years down the road. As far as keeping the old one, not gonna happen. |

Why not? I would drive it. If the motor cooks itself then gm pays to have it towed and repaired and gives you a loaner car anyways. And if it breaks something else...thats just more dime out of GM's wallet that could of been avoided. Lesson learned for them. |
