Tire Valve Cap missing - have a question - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

So I noticed my RS has a missing tire valve cap, I was about to order these:

When I noticed it said "check for tpms". I know my camaro has the tire pressure monitoring system so does this mean it uses special valve caps?

I wouldn't see why it would mess anything up. They are just the caps. Send the ebayer a message and find out why he put that

Just messaged him and waitin for his reply...I think the caps are longer for those have TPMS that's about it.

Maybe if they are made of certain materials they will block the signal somehow.

I am pretty sure that there is a problem with caps of certain materials, I believe they may seize on the stems. I was told this by a tire shop who I have confidence in.

I'm not so sure about that. One of my stock caps went missing so I thought I'd try to find some chrome ones to replace all 4. I just bought some cheap ones from Checker (now O'Reilly) and put them on all 4 stems. I didn't get any errors or messages from the TPMS so I doubt stories about metal caps blocking ths signals are true. The chrome ones I bought were a little short and didn't cover all the brass in the threaded stem, so I took them off and replaced with my 3 remaining original black caps. Would like to find another stock cap, anyone have an extra they can send me?

I didn't hear anything about blocking signals, I was told they would sieze, don't think it would happen in a short period of time, perhaps when the op gets a reply from the vendor he will give us his response.

I have magnetic caps I found at advanced auto.

its just going to be too short. i have the same problem with mine so i think i will just put the regular black ones on again.

I've heard this, too...from a dealership. There may be a TSB on it...

Chrome or stainless caps will "stick" to the brass TPMS stems. You will have to cut them off! I learned this the hard way on my HHR SS.

I had chrome caps on my stock wheels. I used a dremel tool and some chrome sleeves to fill the gap of brass. Never bothered the signal.

Some TPMS sensors are part of the stem. Others are on the inside of the wheel.
