Popping sound from front right side
Ok so here's the deal a couple weeks ago I hit a pot hole while making a U turn under the highway which made me hit the curb pretty hard. I ended up having to get a new tie rod and alignment, I finally picked it up yesterday and now I hear a popping sound that seems to be coming from the front passenger side wheel area. It happens when I hit bumps in the road or when I go up the drive way or when I turn the wheel to the left a little bit. It sounds very similar to when I put in new sway bars and endlinks and didn't have them tightened enough. I'm thinking something might be lose but I'm not sure. I'm thinking of taking it back to the dealer tomorrow, but does anyone have any idea of what it might be?

could possibly be the steering rack? did you bend the tie rod? id get them to look at your control arms and everything in that area....theres a lot of joins that can make a popping noise in suspensions when turning

Yeah the tie rod was bent. I'm taking it in, in the morning. Hopefully it can be solved.
I do hear it when I turn the wheel slightly to the left, however I hear it all the time just driving straight when I hit small bumps in the road.

OK well I decided to take a look at it myself, I personally didn't see nor could find any damage. So I decided to check the screws and they were a little loose. I don't know if the Chevy dealership didn't torque it right or what. So I cranked them down pretty tight and it seemed to have fixed it. I have a 3 hour drive to make sunday so we'll see if the noise comes back or not.

It sounds like a front end-link needs re-torquing - with the cold weather here in NJ I had to re-torque mine when I heard a popping sound from the front passenger side when swinging the Camaro out of my garage.

When chasing suspension noises a HUGE amount of time can be saved using chassis ears. They have become so cost effective a number of our clients have them in their home garages. Your local GM dealer has them as do most shops. |
