Tic, tic, tic

My L99 has started ticking when I start the engine. And no, it hasn't exploded. It quiets down after about a minute. It sounds like sticking lifters, but I'm old school so it could be something else on these new fangled engines.

Is this normal? What should I do if anything?

My LS1 did the same, from what I hear its notorious for all LS based engines to do this..My L99 started doing it too around 15k..

Normal

Some describe it as a sewing machine sound. Get some headers and it will be even more pronounced.

Mine has started to do this also, and seams to be worse if the air is on at startup.

Brand new engines make this noise. Very subtle and you have to have your head under the hood, but it's there. At least mine and a few other new C5's make this noise that I've heard. It's like a little textile factory under there with 426hp

At the same time I have a 99 Chevy truck with a 6.0 in it. This truck has 189000 miles on it and is still going strong. The same tic has been there from day one, so not that worried about this.

It really bugges me through a drive thru after the headers. What are you going to do? Its the nature of the beast.

What you are probably hearing is the l99 lifters ticking. Most people will try and scare you by saying it may be piston slapping it's not. My car had a l99 I recently converted it over to a ls3 so bye bye went the Afm lifters. My car did it from day one as a l99 so I wouldn't be alarmed. If it bothers you to much let the dealership look at it otherwise I wouldn't worry about it to much as many have said ls engine make these noises however not like L99's.

If you wanna know more search here on the site for L99 lifter tick or l99 tick
