AFM Active in Manual Mode

I didn't think this would happen, but sure enough, I've had the car go into 4-cylinder mode several times when rolling along in 3rd gear

Is this normal? Anyone else notice AFM while using the paddle shifters?

It sure does come on in manual mode, unfortunately.

It not just about sound; it really gets in the way of the driving experience.

Sucks driving a 4 cylinder in traffic , but... at 50K or when ever the warranty ends.... it's on!!!

I like my warranty, especially since I have only 494 miles on my car....

Yep, 2900 on mine. In traffic is sounds like I'm poppin' an ear drum every time I touch the gas and mine is worse because I have a muffler delete---but when your cruising under power the sound is AWESOME!!!

If you downshift with the paddle shifters while in manual mode, the AFM should be turned off for the remainder of the time you are in manual mode. At least that's how my 2010 L99 Coupe and L99 vert behaved. That was my work-around until I had AFM tuned out. :-)

+1

I drive in M all the time and do a 2-3-2 shift at the beginning and AFM will be off until you put it back in D or S and back to M. This will work until you tune it out.

I had the AFM tuned out with Ted's tune from JRE. I don't even think about it or the warranty now that I have tire chirping shifts.

It looks like you've gotten a lot of good answers here. If you would like I could forward this question on to one of my internal resources to see if this is supposed to happen on your vehicle. All I would need to do this would be your name and VIN if you would like me to look this up for you.

The AFM sound or droan must vary from car to car. It was never detectable on my 2010 SS L99. Even now with my a/mkt Solo J-pipe exhaust I can't tell when it cuts in & out of 4 cyl mode.

That is exactly my experience. The 4 cylinder drone was so bad that there was no mistaking whether AFM was activated or not. And it definitely wasn't in the Tap Shift mode. To me it sounded like the engine was lugging. Perhaps you are hearing exhaust related drone?
