Another possible manufacture defect?
To start off, I hate pointing fingers and blaming someone else when something goes wrong. About 2 to 3 weeks ago I brought in my 2011 2SS/RS because I noticed there was a dent/gouge in my rim. The thing is that I don't park my car anywhere other than my garage or a car show in which i sit right next to. My rim was replaced under manufacture defect.
Today I washed my car and as I finished up drying the car I see a spot on the roof of the car. I ran my finger along it and it is smooth with the paint. I tried using a clay bar and paste wax to get rid of it and nothing will remove this spot. I had my dad take a look at it who is an estimator for a GM dealership and asked him what he thought. He said it looked like it was enviornmental, like acid rain. Which I know we don't have acid rain in Iowa, however, this car was originally sitting at another dealership before I bought and they had it shipped to the one my dad works at so I could buy it. Anyhow, I am wondering if it will be a manufacture defect in the paint or if it truly is acid rain. If it is a manufacture defect I bet they are getting tired of me coming back with more stuff for them to fix.

I have the same paint issue below one of my taillights. Smooth with a finger but looks wavy and I couldn't get it out.

Take it to your Chevy dealer and have them wet sand it. Should take all of 15 minutes and be good as new!

Acid rain wouldn't affect you so quickly, unless it was literally acid. Acid rain will certainly create paint problems - but over the course of years.
Have you been near any volcanic activity lately? I'm not being sarcastic - that'll cause some seriously nasty rains... kill your entire garden type of rain lol. More likely - its a cloudiness under the clear caused by poor adherence, too soon between coats, or leeching of some chemical during the curing process. For what its worth, i have a few spots here and there, but not big enough to bother me or be noticeable to anyone unless they really go over the car with a fine toothed comb. I've been less than impressed with the paint quality, in general... |

Have them look at it your next visit. I find more imperfections everytime I wax but nothing I can't live with

I wouldn't worry about such a small defect. You can't keep these cars looking like they were never driven forever.

I work at a Nuclear Power plant and have driven it there maybe 5 times within the past 3 months. From my understanding the steam from the cooling towers is "acid rain" but I am not sure how true that really is. I understand I can't keep this car looking new forever, but this is my pride and joy since this is what I bought after a year in Iraq. I paid 43,000 dollars for this car so it should be in perfect shape. Plus it isn't my DD so I should be able to keep it in good shape for a longer time.

The only thing coming out of those cooling towers should be steam and only steam, if theres anything else not so good, i always find defecst in my paint it drive me crazy especially since my car is never driven and i always take care of the paint. Alot of its environment. Never park under trees and never let dead bugs or bird dropping sit on you paint and dry alway clean it right away especially on black.

I know its not rail dust. You can get that stuff off with a clay bar. Infact, i use to be a wash boy in high school and my manager made me clean a F350 with a claybar to get rid of all the rail dust. that day sucked. I have my doubts that the cooling towers are acid rain since we have living plants all over the place and my DD doesn't have any of these spots. Maybe I will see if I can post some pics on here, but it is really hard to see unless I pull it out of the garage and I don't feel like doing that today.

When i bought my camaro it had the same problem. I didnt realize it until i went back to the delearship and was having the stripe applied that the person who was applying the stripe brought it to my attention. They told me that they thought it was acid rain also, and i live in california. They ended up wet sanding the spots which fixed the problem. There only other explanation was that at the factory when they replace the nozzles on the paint sprayers the clear coat that they put on is heavier in some spots for the first several cars which gives you the spot that you saw.

I think I am going to take it back in this tuesday. I tried to take some pictures but you can't see it on the camera.

i've noticed if i leave birdpoop on for more than a day, sometimes less, when i clean it off there is always a mark exactly like what you are describing. Some people might say it's b.s. that it could happen, but it's literally b.s. in my case. No polishing or waxing removes the mark. May have to try wet sanding, see if that works. |
