"Feel" vs. Performance

With all the vs. threads popping up, I thought I'd start one that's slightly different in tone. (maybe ) I was wondering how many folks are buying their particular car because of "feel" rather than sheer performance. I for one am buying a ZL1 mainly for the "feel." Feel includes: cosmetic look (both interior and exterior), offered technology, and the overall "wow" factor that the car brings. Don't get me wrong, the performance of the cars being discussed herein are amazing; however, I care less about straight-line performance (for example) than how the ZL1 makes me salivate every time I see it. So what say you?

I agree with you for the most part. I love everything about this car that you describe, and 99% of the time that is the most enjoyment I am going to get out of it since I am not a regular weekend racer. I have actually never raced a road course, but with this car I am actually looking forward to trying my hand at it, at least one. But for the most part I am going to get the enjoyment from looking at it, driving it, and of course the "WOW" factor since that is what I'll get to experience on a daily basis!

I'll be honest, I'm going for bragging rights and WOW factor. It's not that I'm really getting bored of the other two 5th Gens, I just feel the need to switch it up to something new.

I think you've got a great point!! And I think I'm in it for both the feel AND the performance.

Well, sure. I guess what I'm really curious about is the nature of people's decision making. It seems to be a common theme to suggest that a particular car choice (keeping in mind a field narrowed to performance vehicles) is concomitant upon performance numbers. I'm thinking that more/most choices are based on gut reactions.

I think I'm in into the ZL1 for the feel more than the performance, since 99% of the time I won't be driving anywhere near the cars potential in handling or accelleration. It probably comes down to not seeing another one on every corner and knowing that the performance is always there should an opportunity to safely enjoy it.

Well...I know that our most direct competitor could have 1,000 hp for 10,000 less, and I still would want a ZL1.

I've often said...if I could buy an SS and modify it until I was "done"...it'd look 99.99% like the ZL1, on paper and in the flesh.

For me it's funny, I am sitting here with a v6 contemplating my upgrade to a v8. The trouble is that everytime I get in my v6 I'm so happy I can't remember why I want to change. Truthfully, if I don't change to a v8 I'll still be happy, it's a sick looking car and every time I walk up to it i get the same feeling.

The feeling of a V8 is just amazing, especially with 580 HP. It will feel like the car itself is pulling you. The feeling will be great with performance as well.

Honestly, I was all set to order a 2ss. Then the ZL1 was announced and said it was going to be out the same time as I was planning on getting the 2ss. I will always be a camaro fan and so there really is no other choice. Just for me I wanted the best camaro out at the time I buy mine. Comes down to as long as it is a Camaro I will have a grin on my face.

Agree. Feel>Performance, unless you are among the small percentage of buyers who got the car to race it.

And not just the feel, but sound as well, which is why I'd never want to see the V8s replaced by turboed V6s.

I think the ZL1 is a perfect mix of feel and performance. I was debating buying a CTS-V as a daily driver and the more I read about the ZL1, the more I felt like the CTS-V was an old persons car (no offense to those who drive this great car, I'm just not a Caddy guy). I have a ZR1, which in my opinion is the ultimate performance car, but I hardly ever drive it because you cannot leave it anywhere. I think the ZL1 is the perfect blend of great performance but it has the "feel" of wanting to get in it and make the drive to work something to enjoy.
