anyone installed strut covers? question

Has anyone installed strut tower covers like the ones in this pic? The instructions say place the car on level ground & usestrut rod nut socket on the nut while holding the strut rod with T-50 torx socket to prevent rotating. remove nut. Then pop offstrut cover cap with a flathead screw driver. Then install the covers. I was going to buy a torque wrench & the other items needed & install it myself. Then some C5 folks said don't go out & buy a torque wrench I will never use again. I have asked a couple of friends & auto shops about installing it & they keep saying stuff about the springs needing to be compressed. If this was the case wouldn't it have to be mentioned in the directions? Do I need to be worried about that or not? I have found a friend who teaches at a local auto tech school who said he'd do it for me for free, but that would require me taking a day off to meet him. I just want to understand what is going to be involved. Thanks in advance for newby assistance.

this is a easy mod

just pull plastic cap off then remove nut , pull black steel peice with rubber ...place your strut cover on , put nut back on ,,,i think torque is 55ft lbs....basically snug ,,put top cover on and done
