Question Exhaust Question

Hey guys, I`m new to the forum, although I have done plenty of reasearch on this website, I felt like it was time to register and join the community, everyone has been super helpful and now I have a question of my own i`m hoping ya`ll could help with.

After purchasing my 2012 1LT w RS Pckg, I got straight to modding. One of the first modifications I had to do was improving the sound and tone of the stock exhaust. I couldn't throw out 575$ or more for a better quality / toned exhaust, so I decided to goto the local exhuast shop and I had the Flowmaster 40 series dual axle back exhaust installed for 280$.

Now, my question is what can I do to improve the sound? I would like a deeper tone / growl to the exhaust, less rasp as well. In my research it seems like a resonator delete, with a 2.5 - 3" straight piping would improve the tone and make it deeper perhaps? Also, I was wondering if deleting the resonators and adding straight piping, along with a magnaflow resonated x-pipe might help reduce rasp, but I do not want to take away from the deeper tone, etc by adding the x - pipe.

Thanks in advance for everyone`s help guys, my car is currently in the shop getting the rims powder-coated black, I hope to take the car back to the exhaust shop Tuesday to look into improvements of sound.

Should have saved up for a cat back like corsa, solo etc. If you can afford powder coating your rims then you could have gotten a Corsa exhaust, just saying.

I think you should go for it. The exhaust setup is similar to mine (except I have cherry bombs), and I never looked back.

I've decided to spend MY money on first giving my vehicle the black-out look; rims, bowtie, bezels, painting calipers, etc. . . exterior modifications.

I am not left with much more of a budget to spend the money on things such as the cat-back exhaust, my current set-up is just temporary until I can finish what I have planned and then proceed with performance modifications such as the exhuast, cai, etc... Just looking to get the best of what I currently have.

Thanks.

Thanks man, so you think the resonator delete with straight pipe, possibly 3" and the magnaflow resonated x pipe ( including the dual axle back flowmaster 40series mufflers ) will give me more of the sound I am looking for temporarily?

I understand what you are trying to do but by the time you bought the cherry bombs, the x pipe, etc. and you add them all up you almost bought a cat-back system designed for the camaro. IMHO you better off just saving until you could afford the system you really want. You stated it's just temporary until you could afford a new system. What's a few months, it will save you a few hundreds of $$. Your stock exhaust will do fine until then.

I see what you`re saying honestly and I recently listened to your corsa catback set-up, its amazing man, love the sound... How much was the system and how exactly is your set up? Even when I do upgrade the system, I really do not want to put more then 600$ - 750$ into the system, any recommendations?

Also, I have already installed the axle-back flowmaster 40 series, I was just wondering on how to improve the sound and tone of the system, I haven't had the stock system since a few days after purchasing the car... If i wouldn't have been so anxious and impatient, I probably would have just waited completely.

My whole exhaust system consist of: Solo HFC ($470), Corsa Cat-Back exhaust ($1050). CAI cold air intake ($400). Added the intake because I feel it adds to the sound. I know this is out of your price range and the Solo Cat-Backs are about $200 cheaper then the Corsa's and they sound great too. Just wait and save a few months and get what you really want. I know the bug has gotten you but waiting for the right system you like is worth it and allot less trouble. I want to lower my girl with Phrast(spelling wrong I know) coil overs but I can't afford $2500 right now and probably won't until next summer. I already borrowed money from my wife I have to pay her back first. Trust me it's going to kill me waiting that long but I could buy the lowering springs first but don't want to waste $200 or so on that knowing I'm going to change them out for coil overs. Anyway, sorry I couldn't help you on a cheaper system and good luck.. Any pictures of your car?
