Tire Advice - Nitto NT555

Looking into the NT555 because it seems to have good ratings in terms of dry and wet traction (though wet is less important than dry) and has a decent treadwear rating. Its also one of the few tires that comes in a size that would work for my purposes without having to recalibrate the speedo/odo.

Anybody have any experience with this particular tire that they could share?

We have the 20" NT555s on my Son's mustang. He has about 30,000 miles on them now and they were good up until about 25,000. The hold the road very well, they are predictable (in my opinion) when you break the car loose and are much better rain tires than I thought they would be. The have been nice tires and with his and my abuse I think they have lasted pretty well. I may go with these tires again; he is needs some before the rainy season comes.

What do you mean by good up until about 25,000?

Reason I was looking into them was that they come in 265/50/18, which seems to be a good size for keeping the factory sidewall height (they're actually like 28.4, but its close enough) and yet being wide enough for good traction with the power I'm looking to make, and for gripping the corners.

If a 275 tire is enough to provide traction for the SS @ 426 horsepower, then I'm sure a 265 would be enough for me at 375-400 horsepower.

I don't think you can put 18" wheels on an SS model due to the Brembos. You should definatley check into that.

i've run the 555's on a few different cars and have gotten the best tire wear out of all the different brands i tried. they last the longest and tend to wear even as long as the car is aligned, now the drawbacks, lots of tire noise, gets worst as they wear, just average traction when new and goes away as they wear, after the first 40% wet traction really goes away. i run have run them on my commuter cars and most have had 20's on them, cant beat the tire wear. i would buy them again for my commutor but not for any performance type driving. hope this helps.
down here on socal we dont get much rain so wet traction isint much of an issue for me, keep that in mind when making your decision.

I currently have these on my 1999 BMW 740iL and have had no problems with wet traction. I use this car as my daily driver, so when I first had to replace my tires I decided on them from recommendation at Discount tire. These are way cheaper than the Micheline Pilot Sports they replaced and last as long if not longer for about half the price. Mine are staggered fitment and unidirectional.
Would buy again definitely....
