Tire prices from the tire guy.

There has been some discussion about tire prices and the ridiculous amount each tire will cost us. I am urging everyone to check out the yokohama parada spec x, yes it is v rated, but is rated a the same speed as the zr tires coming on our ss's. they are very cheap in comparisson to the pirellis that are coming stock with this vehicle. check em out.
ordered 10-20-08 all black ss with sunroof, that s it.everything else will most likley be done by the dealership, or my uncles shop.

Does Goodyear make a run flat SS Camaro 20 inchers like the ones on the Vette? If so how much? I would like to have a little more protection since we don't have a spare!!

Pirelli only one making matching tires right now for front and rear.
Not to mention the Spec X is a tire made for SUV'S.
The Spec X is a good tire for the correct applicaton.

It is not rated at the same speed rating. The SS comes with a ZR tire with a service description of Y = 186 MPH while VR=149 MPH. Big difference but I highly doubt very many people are going to hit the 149 mark. I just don't like it very much when people go throwing out information that can mislead others.
You should stay with a tire that has the same type qualities as your original tires including load index and speed rating. I would also not put a tire made for another type of vehicle (SUV and Crossover for the spec x) on my performance car.
Until other manufacturers come out with tires that are staggered correctly for the Camaro we will be stuck with Pirelli if you want matching tires.

Before claiming that others are putting out misleading information, please take the time to look into the information yourself.

The Spec-X vehicle applications list also includes the Chrysler 300C and the Dodge Charger. This tire is not only for SUVs and trucks. That is just the primary market for 20" tires right now.

The spec x is neither the correct speed rating or load index for the Camaro. You lose 440 pounds of load capacity on the front with the spec x. Just sayin.

440 pounds sounds like a lot until you look at the entire picture:

Pirelli P-Zero (2@245/45ZR20 load=1929lb, 2@275/40ZR20 load=2094lbs) = total load capacity = 8046lbs.

Yokohama Parada Spec-X (2@245/45R20 load=1709lbs, 2@275/40R20 load=2094lbs) = total load capacity = 7606lbs.

Camaro GVWR: 4551 lbs (2144lbs front, 2407lbs rear).

As for the speed rating, Spec-X is V-rated (149mph), P-Zero is Y-rated (186mph). Top speed in the SS is governed to 155mph and as we saw this weekend in another thread, you may have other issues at that speed too.

All I'm saying is that specs are specs and you should buy what you feel comfortable buying when it comes to tires. If you are going to be doing top speed runs, then spend the extra money for the Pirellis because your life will depend on it. If you are like 80%+ of the typical Camaro drivers out there, you'll never go over 100mph, let alone 149mph so you can probably get by with the Spec-X tires and have an extra $1k in your pocket (Spec-X set price=$558, P-Zero set price=$1610) plus nearly twice the treadwear rating of the P-Zero (Spec-X: 420A A, P-Zero: 220AA A).

Nitto makes a 20" 555 tire available through places like Summit Racing

they range in size from 225 to 305 and below are a couple of prices:

255 / 35R20 $135.95

305/ 35R20 $345.95

W Speed Rating (168 mph - exotic car rating)
Treadwear up to 300

Maximum load doesn't matter unless you're going to run maximum pressure*, which I'm sure nobody here will do. At the same size and same pressure, the tire will have the same load rating. Load-inflation charts are standardized across the tire industry.

http://www.geocities.com/barrystiretech/loadtables.html

*: Maybe not exactly the maximum pressure, but almost certainly a pressure far higher than you'll be using.

Anyway, if the tires have a speed rating that will cover all your driving and are the right size, they will be sufficiently safe and not hurt anything. Then you only have to worry about performance - traction, handling, treadwear, ride, noise, aesthetics, etc.

the spec x is plent sufficient, there are several vehichles i have put these tires on that are not suv or crossovers, some zr tires are rated at 149, obviously the y speed rated are not.

I agree with that thought as well. These Yokohama Parada Spec-X tires are All Seasons or Summer? Looking for All Season options for the winter time (weather is 85% cold and 15% snow)
