Model life expectancy of 5th Gen?
I was just reading an online article about a new Malibu for 2012 and was wondering if GM will cycle-through the 5th gen Camaro in time for a new Camaro in 2014? In time with the new Mustang? Also, does anyone know what the likely platform will be? Alpha? Epsilon II?

this car will be around for a while. they are bringing out the vert for 2011 and possibly new paint options. they probably wont change a whole lot on the car save for some cosmetic details for a few years. wouldnt make much sense to develop the Zeta II platform and only use it for a couple years before redesigning it.

That Zeta platform will be getting very lonely. Most GM products seem to be shifting to the Alpha or Epsilon II platforms. Well I hope they don't run too long with this generation Camaro. One thing I've always recognized about Honda is that they put out a completely new design of the Accord and Civic every 5-6 years...just about the time folks are looking for their next car. Smart.

they probably wont change anything next year. With current design i would say 4-6 years before you see something change

Not sure when we will see the 6th gen but you will be seeing changes to this car more often than what they would have done in he past. GM has recognized that one of the problems in attracting sales to the 4th gen was that they didn't freshen it up often enough.

I think 10 year run would be about right. I don't think this has the 4th gen issue cause it's just that much more attractive.
That's just my fantasy anyway. This is the last Gasoline only powered Camaro.. IMO. 6th Gen Sports Electric Coupe. |

Oh, I hope not a 10 year run. We get bored after a few years and start yearning for that next, new model. They need a 6th gen by 2015. Not an electric, but smaller/lighter and likely with an up-powered V-6.

I think GM"s financial situation will dictate the model run of the 5th-gen. Wasn't the 2nd gen the longest run of the generations so far @ 11yrs?

I'd guess about 5-7years. I'm just praying they don't pull an Impala change. I was in love with the rear wheel drive Impala they came back out with in mid 90's! Then when they did body change and went to V6 front wheel drive I lost all interest in it. I mean they are still nice cars but it just seems like it went completly into family car. I would rather see them quit making the Camaro before they pull a stunt like that.
