Decided on Solo setup

Anybody heard the difference between the catback and the axleback?

I am only interested in the sound. It's $300 more for the cat-back here in Canada but I'm not sure I need to bother unless there is a big difference in sound. Couldn't find any comparisons on youtube.

For others out there, these guys seem to have the best deal compared to the big-boys.

I'm even luckier because they are local for me and install is free.

I've had the Solo Axle Back J-Pipes for over 3 years now. Just love them. Deep aggressive sound.
I don't think there's any reason to go with catbacks if it's sound your after. I would not want them
any louder than they are and the sound is fantastic imo. I've heard them all and I wouldn't trade
mine for any of them.

I would like some clarification now. It is looking like all the Solo axleback setup is consisting of is:

Cutting off mufflers
Adding the J-pipe and straight tubing to some tips.

Is that correct? If so, It sure seems like a lot of cash to me. Is the J-pipe special in that no shop can just make them up at a lesser cost?

I just like to see that I'm getting something for my money. It is the cheaper option out there I guess but for not much more, I can get two mufflers with MBRP or some other.

The price is in the technology. They researched and tested what would work for their setup. When you say it is "All tubing to me and tips" that's correct and incorrect. It's all tubing, tips, hangers, clamps, and researched technology. Can another shop imitate it? Sure, but it may not be 100% drone free as Solo guarantees.

If you look at the other brands like magnaflow. bassani etc they all sell a muffler delete kit for about the same price minus the Jpipes. Im running the solo axelback and from my point of view the kit is quality. The fit was great the sound is awsome and their customer service is second to none

This.

The main sound killer on the LS3 is the cats. Solo high flow cats on an otherwise stock system sounds very, very good. Nice bark at start up, deep and rumbly idle, almost stock sound while cruising, and a throaty roar at WOT. Perfect, IMO.

Plus you will get a performance gain with the cats that you will not get with the axle back.

Win/win.

+1 The main reason for the j-pipes is the drown on a L99. The cats make the big difference...although together they sound awesome.
