How much HP to stay with a C6 Z06

As the title states. I drove a ZL1 for the first time Saturday. Loved the car and would like to buy one in the near future. Awesome sound and feel. Also very fast. From all I've read on the ZL1 it seems like it would be a real race for a corvette grand sport or C5 Z06 from say 40-140. I think A ZL1 would need 680-700 crank HP to be even with a C6 Z06. DO you guys agree? NOT try to start a war here or bench race. Just trying to get a good idea what it would take to be even with a C6Z06. Has anyone had any real world experiences with a C6Z? I have a 2009 Z06 which is stock, but would like to add a ZL1 as a stable mate as I think they are both awesome cars

600whp will make it a close race. That would be about 700 at the crank. If you crunch the number for power to weight it would take around 621 crank hp but from what I have seen that's not enough.

In Nevada you'll need to be on the higher end of that number too. You're working with a blower that will get heat soak and that LS7 is still rocking a plastic unit.

In an auto, you will need 580rwhp to have a realistic chance. With a 6spd, 600+ rwhp.

target ~600whp. I am at ~585 and I think I am still a tick off.

in my mind

9.1 or 9.55 lower
cai
headers
hx
injectors
would be minimum recipe and should get you close.

throw a cam in the mix if you want to overshoot. then you can get into the 650-675 range and be faster.

If the vette is stock I would say 550-580whp would do the trick....I'm at 630 wheel in an M6. Lost to a c6 zo6 headers + 100 shot, tune by a car length... was ahead until the weight difference caught up to me

I have an auto ZL1 with around 600 rwp my buddy has a stock new zo6 with z07 package. I think that's what he called it. We were going around 45 mph the temp was 50 and I am on stock tires that suck in the cold. We take off and I torched the tires for 100ft once I hooked up he was 2 cars ahead. Once I had traction he didn't pull away much til around 120 and when I let off at 160 he had 3.5-4 cars on me.

Thanks for the input guys. Seems like 700 crank give or take a bit should put it even with a C6Z06. Looks like the JDP ZL-700 package would be a good way to get there.

A lot of it depends upon what speed you want to 'hang with' the C6Z.

The C6Z is a monster and it has very long legs. From a dig or roll, 700 HP may be enough to be competitive.

But - above 130-ish, you will most likely need more HP because the aero advantage the C6Z has is incredible.

Sounds fun either way. I've driven several C6Zs and they are very, very impressive - even bone stock.
