Worst 7 second decision of my life...

I drove my LS very hard but I never turned TC and ST off. After 20,000 miles, I traded for an SS. I put Kooks LT's and a 3.91 on it and drove it VERY hard; but I never turned TC and ST off. After 20,000 miles I traded it for a ZL1.

After 3000 miles on my ZL, I turned TC and ST OFF last night on an empty county road near my house. I must have thought that I knew how to drive 580 HP old school but, sadly, 40,000 nanny miles gave me a confidence in my driving ability that was not warranted.

I broke loose in 1st and saved it, slammed it into 2nd and mashed it. 5 o'clock, 8 o'clock, 3 o'clock, braking, ditch, tree. (I think I still had it mashed at 7 o'clock)

I hit the tree dead center with my rear bumper at about 5 mph. The lower bumper cover took the entire impact... I drove it back out of the ditch and went home. I had little bitty stones imbedded in the bead on my left rear tire. Had the tires checked this morning all is good now.

Lower bumper cover on order.

Worthless, no picture thread...

Ouch. Sorry to hear that.

As you found out, sometimes the most FUN decisions aren't always the most fun after all.

Glad no one got hurt and anything can be fixed. Thanks for sharing.

The best way to learn and respect the ZL1 is to go through the PTM modes. I never turn ST off. That is what saves your beans from getting too much out of control.

Dude be happy thats all that happened. It could have been a lot more costly mistake but you can fix it. Live and learn and you'll be fine

Glad your ok. There was a thread on this subject awhile back, lots of good stories. I also learned not to shut off the stability control, almost spinning it in the middle of the road. Amazing how much the computer actually saves your arse!

Yea a while back I would've took out at least 2 cars if it wasn't for traction control.

Well Camaros are more forgiving that Corvettes. My friend once told me "Everybody who's totalled their Vette had their traction control off." I remembered that. So being like most guys, I intentionally turned it off in straight lines a couple times just to have that rodeo experience anyway ; once just to post the burnout. It worked out.

I have not tried it in this car, and won't. I know that unless I'm in the middle of nowhere that will not work out. She's bad enough with everything on. Glad you only had minor damage, and didn't wreck anyone else or get hurt. Could have been way worse.
